The play must be watched in it's entirety to understand the complexity of the Emcee's character. Why is he so pale??? Why does he not have a name, and just introduces himself as ME??? If you watch the whole play, one might see him as being eeveryone that was prosecuted during the Holocaust. Without giving much away, at the end of the play he is obviously dressed as a consentration camp victim. The symbols on his clother were a pink triangle, yellow star of david, and a red diamond. What are they

There is a great version of Willkommen with John Stamos. Really!!! It is very good. You can slao watch the most complete version of the play with Alan Cummings on You Tube, it is the Donmar "Warehouse " production of most of the play in about seventeen parts. It is also excellent.

Joel Grey WAS great. The movie version of Cabaret was santized, cleaned up, and Bob Fosse was the choreographer, and had great style. Cabarets during the war in Germany at this era would have been much racier, very tacky and amateurish. The Alan Cummings version, a Cabaret play revival, was most probably truer to the original conception of the writers.
