My dad was on one of those Higgins boats. He was a Captain in the Army. But they landed on some beach in the Phillipines. He hated the way the Japanese treated American prisoners and he never forgave them for it.

the allies knew that this operation would incur heavy casualties in an effort to lessen the casualties, they ordered the ships that were firing at the shore to stay out of the range of the german artillery naturally, this meant that the powerful ship guns could only reach so far

I never understood why the Navy or the Army Air Core didn't do a better job softening up the beach before the ground invasion. The German fortifications were pretty out in the open.

Poor buggers , I feel real sorry and sad for those who lost there lives and the loved ones left behind, it applies today as well, how many have died in the name of Peace???? Way to many, so senseless, no one wins in the end, a waste of Live. R.I.P All who lost there lives. Great movie Tom Hanks your a LEGEND, well done.
