MANCHESTER, England — Manchester City beat Chelsea to signing Brazil striker Robinho by agreeing to pay Real Madrid a British-record 32.5 million-pound (C$62-million) transfer fee on Monday. Robinho played his first La Liga game on August 28, 2005 in a 2-1 win against Cádiz CF, coming on as a 65th-minute replacement for Thomas Gravesen.
