Shows how to load a bootloader, run the bootloader, boot MITS 8k BASIC, load a craps game and run it on a MITS Altair 8800b microcomputer. The Altair is arguably the first hobbyist / personal computer and it spawned a little company named Micro-Soft.

I do have a lot of respect for these old machines and for the pioneers that used them. After all, that's when it all began! Thanks to them, that's why we got to where we are today. :-)

I tel you what if you have to work that hard to play one little game. You would appreciate that one game alot more. I love the basic programming. Remionds me of my Commodore 64 days.

I'm glad I started getting into (personal) computers at the point in time when they started to become more "friendly." I try to stay up-to-date and knowledgeable, but I don't know if I would have had the patience back then to flip a bunch of switches!

You would use a dumb terminal over the serial port, or a terminal emulator like he's using through his laptop here.

Superb video. What would a monitor cost to hook up to the Altair around the time it first came out?

Thanks! Been an engineer for 25 years. Currently crreating a hand-held Windows based Biometric unit with tree cameras, WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and 20GB of total memory. Basically 1000 times better than the Altair for about the same price adjusted for inflation.
